The legend of William Tell is of a man forced to put an apple on the head of his son and shoot an arrow through it. Dali takes this age-old tale further with a Freudian twist.
In this painting, the man is holding a baby who has a lamb chop on its head. Here the twist plays out as the man is about to eat the child and the birds await the leftovers in the corner.
