Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has hired a prominent Washington DC lobbying firm, Stryk Global Diplomacy (SGD, formerly Sonoran Policy Group), as part of his efforts to influence US policymakers. This move comes after Hasina’s resignation and flight to India on August 5th, following the toppling of her Awami League government.Documents obtained and verified by Netra News show that Joy signed a six-month contract with SGD, paying $200,000 upfront (around 2.4 crores in Bangladeshi taka).

In return, the lobbyists will “engage with the Executive and Legislative Branches of the United States government to provide a unique insight on the current issues facing Bangladesh.”

The agreement and an amendment were filed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) on September 12th 2024, through Wazed Consulting Inc., a company owned entirely by Joy.
